I am fairly certain this is W.R. Lill, builder of Maylands, South Australia.
He was my grandfather's father. He died in 1913. He was the builder contracted to build the Tailem Bend Railway Station, and the Strathalbyn Post Office. The Railway station was not finished by him, as he died before completion. He was in partnership with his son, my Grandfather (F.W.R. Lill), who completed the work.

Your great grandfather W R Lill is my great grandmother's elder brother. I have considerable historical records and photos as my mother spent about 30 years researching all our grandparents. I am keen to go back further than Fordington Dorsett where our great great grandfather was born. Birth records are not easy. Story is that the Lills came from France to UK to escape the 1770 French Revolution. Still hunting this.

Hello Joy, did we get in touch via email? If not please reply here. I didn't think of checking for comments on this blog.
That is awesome that you have so many photos. The story that the Lills came from France mesh with what my grandmother once told me. Well, more than once. She said that Lill was actually Lille - that the family had come from France. Using Lille but dropping the 'e'. I don't know if they came from Lille, I think that is what I was told. So they actually might have had a different name altogether? Indeed birth records would have been difficult, especially if the names were changed. I have some 'Dorsett' in me. I say 'chimley' instead of chimney which is some of the Dorsett accent/slang. I have always spoken with a more English accent than most Australians, I'm sure it was because of growing up in such an 'old' family. Anyway, get in touch.
Regards.
